Was a dash grab handle available on a 1969 CJ5? If so does anyone have any measurements for the location.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Great, thanks for the help, I think I can estimate from the pic where it goes. Sharp looking Jeep!

My (newly acquired) 66 CJ5 doesn't have a dash grab bar on it. Was a grab bar an option on this model? There doesn't appear to be a set of predrilled holes on the dash so, if I do want one, do you just drill at will???

I would say yes it was an option. I had one on my 65. I added one to the 67. You can see the factory holes in the first photo. It mounts a little farther to the center of the dash than you might imagine. Hope this helps.

Properly called the Passenger Safety Rail it was an option on all CJ-5 since 1955.
It is also an option for the CJ-6 but was never an option for the CJ-3B.
The optional PSR came with an instruction sheet for locating / drilling.
I don't know for certain but would expect that all Tuxuedo Parks had this option bolted on in the correct location.

No grab handle for my 61 CJ-6, nor a glove box.

In my experience, it was usually a dealer installed item. They could be had over the parts counter (we stocked them), and were very easy to install - the holes were pre-drilled and filled with plugs from the factory.

You could have the dealer install one at time of sale, order it as a factory option, or install it at any time using a kit. The dealership where I worked would not order anything for delivery that could be easily installed at the dealership. This gave the salesman more options for how the Jeep was configured before delivery.

On my Tuxedo Park, it is mounted directly in frot of the passenger seat. No other holes in the usual location. Sometimes the windshield latch catches the handle.

For what is worth, my '65 Tuxedo Park didn't come with a grab bar. I added one years later. The factory drilled holes were to the left of the pass. windshield clamp and where filled with chrome plated bolts.

"the holes were pre-drilled and filled with plugs from the factory."

Just put one in my stock one-owner '57. No factory holes in the dash.

My 66 CJ-6 had holes but no bar. A previous owner mounted a long arm and a rear view mirror in the hole closest to the driver. I removed it and added a grab bar.

Hi oldtime, have you ever seen the instruction sheet for drilling? Any chance to share more details?
    Thanks

Old post and I don’t even recall how I seemed to know all this stuff back when .
I do have an original rail that I will likely use.
If by slim chance I have the instruction sheet; well I sure don’t know where it would be.
I’ll rummage through some papers and see if I can locate any more info.
    It is Part #681039.

The holes in the dash for the grab bar became standard around'62/'63. Not all Jeeps came with a grab bar, but they were easy to add.
