I think that may be the fuel tank? My guess is someone had a wrecked bike and decided to transplant the heart.

When I was an assistant instructor to a high school auto shop one of thekids made a real nice cart with a Yamaha 250 dirt bike engine and trans. First run in front of the school County got him for 80mph in a school zone. Never saw it run again but it was impressive.

My old ride circa 1971 at Laguna at the IKF Grand Nationals on the old 1.9 mile track coming down hill out of the corkscrew @ about 135 ...........That's the one and only prototype first ever 125 Rotax 6 speed motor, built specifically for karting that made 61 HP to the wheels.......the weekend started off badly as the motor was originally water cooled but broke the one and only water pump that Rotex had sent............with a little scrambling they sent us a modified air bonnet via Grey Hound overnight out of Long Beach........qualified 23 due to all the issues and lack of practice to get the kart and jetting sorted out........come Sunday we won.

Always nice to look back on Good old Times...........I built that Kart specifically for testing the new 125 water cooled Rotax motor. This was at a time in the early 70's when the German company ROTAX-WERK AG was selling there small engine division to Bombardier / Canada.....who was already producing copyrighted older German Rotax motors for there watercraft and snowmobile divisions.

Everyone thought I was crazy bringing a new Kart & motor to shake it down at the IKF Grand Nationals @ Laguna Seca that year.......and they were right I was Crazy.......but to see how it would perform against the best of the day that is where I had to be...........and It did draw many onlookers.........after a trouble filled weekend with the Water Pump Issue which also included borrowing another racers machine shop in Salinas one night to rebuild the front brakes that were dragging and then finally winning we were tired but pleased......... we only ran that kart a few more times with a much improved water pump as we continued to developed that motor for Bombardier / Rotax Canada and there Southern Cal division then retired the effort.............. the chassis is still hanging on the wall in my sponsors shop.....

Water cooled cylinder head in qualifying before the only water pump in existences took a shix.
