For anyone that has used one of these external regulators...
Do you hook the 5v output of the regulator up at the fuel gauge at the spot you would attach 12v wire too?

Or do you not hook up the 12v wire and instead attach the 5v output of regulator to the bar that goes between the fuel and temp gauge?

Ok, others here can check my work ... I've done this to my J20 but not to a CJ.

    The bar.

The "regulator" is inside the fuel gauge (actually PWM, not regulated - on, off, on, off etc.). The fuel gauge 12V input is the RED connection. PWM regulated DC comes out of the fuel gauge terminal that is connected to the strap with the black insulation, additionally supplying the temperature gauge. Ground is through the cluster connecting to the dash. The fuel gauge ignition feed goes to the 7805 input. Do not connect 12V to the fuel gauge. Instead, the 5V output of the 7805 goes to the strap with the black insulation, and sends 5V to both the fuel and temperature gauge.

Figured I'd add this. Got the new gauges installed. Got a LM7805, 5v regulator. Used one of the screws for the speedometer head for a heatsink.

I wired it so 12v feeds the regulator, amp and oil warning bulbs.

    Good day to you,

Is it normal that this gauge delivers 12 Volt at the bridge? or is this brand new gauge ment to deliver 12 volts. or is it not OK. Looks like an internal regulater in stead of a Bi metal.. The gauge works, but now the temp meter is max hi

I also read somewhere that the wireing is not the same. Can someone confirm this or am I wrong

Other question is the wire to the sender; that reads exactly the right Ohms. 10 at full en 75 empty. But when I put ignition on the readings are completely different. Is that normal?
