Decided to clean up the old (under seat) gas tank. It was dipped at a local radiator shop (who advised me to trash the radiator) and I had let it start rusting again...

I just used the POR gas tank sealer kit and I have to post a caution...I could have plugged the feed. I had closed up the top (sender hole), and the two on the bottom (one with NPT plug, and the other with 1/4 inverse flare fitting with dowel in it) before loading it up with the sealer and duct-taping the filler. After 24 hours, removed the plugs and covers to improve drying/curing. The gas line fitting was difficult to remove, like the dowel wanted to stay in. and when it came out, it did not bring the light coating of sealer with it.

In fact, I found that the other side (inside) if this hole has a tube that is attached to a fixed pick-up in the tank.... But, whoa, the sealer had wicked up the tube and was a bugger to clean out.

The lesson is -- Do Not wait 24 hours to remove this plug, open it up and make sure the sealer is not trapped in this tube!

Do Not Use Tank Sealing Products
If You Can Only Get Ethanol Gas
the ethanol additive will eat up all the sealer
    and cause lots of problems

Let me just say something, ethanol by itself is not corrosive. Normal engine parts and piping that can deal with gas can easily deal with pure ethanol. The problem with E85 and things requiring corrosion resistant parts isn't the ethanol itself, its the additives to get the water out of it so it will mix with gas.

In normal E10 (what you get at the pumps) the concentration should be low and any modern coating from a reputable company should be designed for it.

wouldnt a new tank be easier, and a lot less hassle? I know its a few more bucks, but to me it just seems worth it.
the Gas tank sealer thing, never really made much sense to me...
