I need some help with under seat gas tanks. Here's what I need to know:

    1. Do the supply and return lines both come out of the top of the tank as part of the sending unit?
    2. Where can I get a correct sending unit.

I started working on the gas guage in my 1970 RI and found the following:
    1. The original owner replaced the tank (which he told me when I bought the Jeep)
    2. The sending unit in this tank does not come close to the proper ohm readings for a Jeep sending unit.
    3. My tank has the supply line coming out of the bottom of the tank.
    4. The return line goes into the top of the tank at the sending unit.
    5. The sending unit is flanged and blots to the tank with 6 small screws.

I'm starting to thick the original owner might have purchased a tank and sending unit that are not the original style?

    Thanks for any help!

    Robert

That sounds like the correct sending unit. Although I thought that all the senders with the fuel return built-in were the locking ring type not the 6 screw type. Could just be a bad sending unit.

I recieved a new sending unit from Quadratec and it is the locking ring type with the supply and return coming out of the sending unit. Searching the parts sites, I found that the V6 equipped Jeeps had a different sending unit because they have a fuel return line. I'm starting to think that I have an incorrect tank!

I bought a plastic tank and sending unit from MTS for my 67 V6. Both supply and return go into the sending unit. I don't think the originals had a bottom feed.

My 67 v6 has a bottom feed and top of the tank return about 3 in left (drivers side) of the 6 screw sending unit. this seems to be an unaltered jeep.

A '70 should have the later style, with the supply and return both in the sending unit. This style uses a locking ring, not screws.

That's exactly how the stock tank on my 70 is set up.

Thanks for all the help!!! I believe the orginal owner got the wrong tank when he replaced it years ago. I found the MTS site and I think I'm going to get a tank from them and get this project wrapped-up.

    Thanks again
