    I am at a point where the tank on the 72 is ready to install. but I dont like it. the only year that used this small can located in the rear wheelwell and connected via hoses to the four corners of the tank. its the venting system I guess. I know they used a internal one after this, my question is is a replacement tank my best option for the $$$ or would a poly tank be better? I found one in the old JCWhitney for about $100 and wondered if this would be good. any comments?

    I've just bought an extra large poly tank for my 73. I havent fitted it yet, but its a really solid piece of kit. Never have to worry about rot again, and with the skid plate, should be pretty solid and take a few whacks.

    But then again, mine was already located under the tub at the back centre...

    The only difference between the '72 tank and the later tanks AFAIK is the change to internal vent lines. You should be able to use a later tank with a single vent line and close the other 3 (?) lines to the liquid check valve.

    Your choice - poly or steel. The steel tanks rust. Be sure to use a skid plate with either.

    JC Whitney is not one of our favorite vendors here. I've found that they are no cheaper when you add shipping. Plus they have a reputation for slow shipping.

    ahh, I think the Poly tank is prob where Im gonna go, I still have the factory skid and it says in the ad I have to use it, for JCWhitney, I found the same thing in my Quadratec book so I think they go through the same people, the ad looked the same and I already bought stuff through Quadratec so Ill prob go with them.

    Anybody had problems with the Poly tanks????

    There is free shipping until August 31 if you spend $125 or more, I bet you could spend another $25 on your Jeep if you choose. ;) If you wish to take advantage of the offer use code SJGN698 not good outside U.S. or any order number ending in “E”, your good with the tank.

    Keep in mind JCW doesn't *stock* much of anything. They just turn your order around to the manufacturer and have them (in most cases anyway) drop ship to you.

    I don't even consider them anymore...haven't for years.

    those tanks were problematic even when new; seems every new one we ordered back then had at least 2 of the hose nipples knocked off the tanks in transit :shock: always had to re-solder them
    I would just solder them closed and run 1 vent thru the filler as mentioned above.
    The other problem was the foam/insulation at the bottom; it retained mositure and rusted the tank from the outside;
    I have no experience with the poly tank, but that might be your best bet

    I’m not advocating JCW just trying to save him money because he mentioned purchasing from them.
