I am fooling with the idea of mounting a small fuel tank under my M416 trailer, and using an electric pump to move it from the trailer to my underseat tank while driving.

I think it is all straightforward except the fuel line from trailer to jeep. Anyone with any experience with this kind of thing? I am thinking I need some kind of disconnect at the back of the jeep that the line from the trailer would plug into. When disconnected neither should leak. Anything out there that could do the job?

Not saying I like the idea, but there are lots of quick disconnects available for gas usage. the first that comes to mind is the ones on an outboard motor gas tank. your goal is 0 leakage.

Hmmm intresting, Im with sink the out board fuel line motor connect willl work good for that kind of app and its east to come by part for it. The biggest problem I see with the setup is making sure you dont over fill your front tank and get gas all over your jeep and cause a haz.

Are you concerned with being legal with this setup? If so I'd check on things...just wouldn't expect a flexible fuel connection to pass muster...

Fuel transfer.... Over a trailer hitch? I seriosly doubt that this is legal! However, I really doubt that would matter much unless you got to meet Mr Trooper on a bad day. I personally would not do it that way. I did rig up a Ford truck to transfer like that. It kinda sucked One had to keep a eye on the gauge. And then there was the running the pump dry issue. Plus the overfilling the front tank hazard.
Got for it, if you must.

once again I am not much for this idea, but an alternative is to create your own mini service station, same transfer pump, same tank, but use a nozzel and hand on the switch when you're fueling. that way you can carry as much as you fell necessary and fuel up anytime you like, and stretch your legs while doing it. Oh and your eyes and mind are on the pumping operation, not on the road ahead $.02
