I'm currently in the middle of replacing the fuel tank, filler hose, vent hose, and supply line on my 71. The vent hose bulkhead fitting that attaches the vent hose to the filler hose leaked every time I would fill up so I decided that replacing all the hoses would be a good idea.

Should the washer on the bulkhead fitting go on the inside or outside of the filler hose? Also is there any sealant that can be used to prevent leakage?

From the outside in: nut, steel washer, filler hose, steel washer, o-ring, inner shoulder of the bulkhead fitting.

Parts book says that the inside and outside washers are the same PN, and the o-ring is a "rubber washer."

I'd guess you'll bottom the threads before the joint tightens up without the inner steel and rubber washer.

Well, that would explain the leak that I was getting. I suppose I'll have to try to find a thin piece of sheet to make a new washer from and then get a rubber washer. Thanks Tim

I wonder if the inside washer and rubber seal were stuck to the inside of the original filler hose when I replaced it 8 or so years ago??.....

Pro Seal, this is what we use in the aviation world to seal riveted alum tanks.

This stuff is messy, but it does work. You will need to clean things first-----bare metal.
