Well, I think I've done it to myself again....I installed 11" brakes on the front of the Willys. Went for a ride last nigth w/michigan_pinstrips. Good new is the brakes worked great. Bad news, is when we locked in the front hubs, the front tires would only rotate about 90 degrees before locking up. Unlocked the front hubs, the wheels rotate. Not sure if I have an issue in the differential or if the problem is where the inner and outer shaft connect together in the front axle (near each tire).

During the front brake job, I had to remove the old backing plate. When I removed it, the "outer shaft" (connects to the "inner shaft" coming from the differential) fell out of the housing. I put simply stuck the outershaft back into the glob of grease, the installed the new backing plate. Rzeppa and Spicer units stay connected together. Service manual shows that "bendix" type of universal joints has some balls and a pin that goes through the center ball.

Q: Are you suppose to separate the inner and outer shafts on a bendix unit, or are these suppose to come out together/as a unit like a Spicer & Rzeppa?

Guess what I'll be working on after the kids go to bed?

 Yep, we know what you'll be doing. My 3B has one of them and I remember 2 years ago very carefully holding the whole assembly while reinstalling it. ;)

I too had that problem but cured it by buying later model shafts(ujoints) off ebay for $65 pr. keep looking and you'll find 'em for a model 25!! I broke my bendix style axle while wheeling, they are weak when you bind 'em up in a turn. I do have a right side axle assy(bendix) if you need a trail spare.$25.

Sounds like a good time to make the switch to more modern axle shafts. Gotta go in anyway.
