I was wondering if any of you have found a rear frame mounted swing away spare tire carrier
that bolts up to an intermediate CJ5? My 1973 CJ5 came with a swing away spare tire carrier that was mounted to the body, and I'm looking for something a little more solid for offroading. I see lots of options in catalogs, but nearly all the carriers are listed for '76' and later.

Most fab up one. There are several people on ebay that make them for around $300.00. Most will do custom stuff.

When you bolt it up, add gussets from the frame to the bumper on both sides due to the crossmember being so flimsy.

I'll find my mfg list of companies who make carriers for 72-75 cj from when I was researching and post later today.

I believe I have seen one in 4WD's catalog, or maybe in Quadratrac's.. I have only seen one made for pre 75's and that is it.. I am going to fab my own up, and incorporate it into the bumper I am also fabbing.

Edit: Dang Boyink, that site has just what I have been looking for. I may just purchase one instead of fabbin one.. Which model and accesories do you have?

I made my own. I cut off the flimsy excuse for a stock bumper, made a new heavy duty bumper, and added the tire carrier, removeable luggage rack, and removeable jerry can holders to the bumper. I also made the bumper air tight to act as an air tank.

Thanx for the pix Mike. I am still kickin it around as it is quite a bit ofmoney. But May be just as economic as buildin one from scratch.

NorColJeeper I'd like to see some pix of your bumper too.. If I'd a realized you were in Fort Collins I'd a made arrangements to stop by and see for myself .. I was in Lafayette for Xmas.

Sorry you didn't make it :)

I'll try to post some pics tonight. I mainly have build pics since most of the parts are rarely used so far.

Here's a Durango 4x4 mounted on an intermediate CJ6. The bumper required some modifications, but the results were worth it.

I have a bumper on mine already- does the cross one bolt up (or have tabs suitable for welding) to any rectangular style bumper?
