Looks Good and the push button turned out real nice. Might consider it for my Willys.

Time to turn my attention to the top I picked up.

Looks like it's missing some body filler.

Is that a metal top? Any idea what one of those weighs? I've seen them on the internet, but never in person.

How did you do the floating rear axle? Parts needed?

    Yes.

Two can lift the top on (minus side doors) fairly easily. It comes apart in pieces which is cool. I can carry the top piece by myself without issue.

You can collect these parts and do the job without using Herm's kit, but there is machine work and ordering/altering of custom axles involved. You may or may not end up saving any money. His kit is quite complete, and the only parts in the kit that weren't brand new were the spindles.

Using the kit I was also able to do a disc swap and go to 30 spline axles at the same time. Definitely not cheap, but I think it was worth the cost to have everything together in one place and to have access to Herm's expertise.

Progress...I think I use too much hardener...I'm always forced to apply quickly.

2nd application after some sanding. I'm not going for pristine, but wanted to at least hide the big gap.

    I hate doing bodywork...

Hope you are more a more patient man than I. Looks like you got a good start, though.

too much hardener will affect the durability of the filler, better off with a little not enough and waiting for the bondo to harden, worse thing is it may stay a little tacky on the top, a quick cut with some 36 grit will remove the gummy stuff and allow you to sand with a less aggressive paper.

I think this might actually be something motor mount related? Shaky take offs.

    Focker,

That was a damn fun and interesting saga. And that dang Jeep looks phenomenal. One question. I've been slowly working on my '73 that came with basic black plastic fender flares. These were never "stock" right? I think I want to remove them to get it looking more flatty...Am I correct and do you agree?

'73 cj5 beat me to your question.

I personally don't care for them, but that's the beauty of the Jeep...Do what you like (unless you're trying to maintain "correctness").
