Aside from the axle shaft length, what (if any) are the differences between the '70-'71 offset flanged dana 44 and the '72-'75 centered flanged dana 44? are all carrier bearings, wheel bearings, races, seals, etc the same?

I think you could get a powerlok in '70-'71, but could only get a traclok in the '72-'75.

Everything is the same between the two. Both have the same spline count for the axle shafts as well.

Jeeps with optional Powr Lok differentials were only available with 19 spline axle shafts.
When Jeep went to 30 spline axles (as early as 1969 on Renegade I models) that's they started using Trac Loc's.
IH and a few early 1960's GM 1/2 ton pickups are good candidates for 30 spline Powr Lok differentials.

Drum brake backing plates are different on how they attach, bolt pattern, 10" vs 11".

'70-'71 had 10" as Jpflat2a indicated. The backing plate/housing end bolt pattern is the same between those and '72-'75 as is housing diameter.

thanks guys, yes the brakes are different - forgot about that. but sounds like the same axle (absent the shafts).
i asked because i have a good exploded view of the 72-75 axle, which based on replies here will serve me just fine for the 70-71 axle i am rebuilding.
