Oh! Ah, no, none of that.

As for the fuel issue. The inline fuel filter was clean.

BUT there is a nylon filter in the carburetor where the cintered brass used to reside.

It was ah, quite full.

So now I need to get some new gaskets for my carburetor since while I was checking that I also inspected other parts internal to make sure there were no blockages, etc.

A quick carb rebuild and a new brass filter will always help.It sounds like the power circuit might have some blockage.

If it was that filter being the problem don't tell us so we can't harass you. ;)

I'm with Brannon here, I think you're running out of fuel.

FWIW, I had a '73 Impala with a 454 in it that would run just great up until I hit 52 MPH in third gear. At that point, the clogged fuel filter would make the engine sputter and bog big time until I got back under 52 MPH, at which point it would run great again. Scratched my head for a few days over that one...

I'd look for restrictions anywhere in the fuel supply.

"What speed when? I can't go any faster than 50-55 in 3rd since it won't go past 2500 RPM. But it will get up to that speed in 2nd gear."

Sorry what I meant to say was did it do it at any particular speed or just sort of ran out of power? When mine did it it was always between 55 & 60 no matter what RPM or gear.

(thinking out loud) How about disconnecting the rear driveshaft at the x-fer case and start, run, and rev the engine w/ tranny engaged in all 3 gears to see if it's truly an "under load" issue? It's only 4 bolts & the Jeep stays put. You could also do vacuum tests & the like w/ engine in gear w/ several sets of eyes lookng at diffo things simultaneously, if possible.

You've hit on one of my pet peeves. Take that carb inlet filter out and throw it into the nearest trash can. Your inline is much better. You don't need that filter in the carb--it's WAY too small.

Can't tell you how many Chevy's I've "fixed" by replacing that filter that had identicle problems.

Nothing yet. No parts. Gotta give me some time here, I can't work without the aforementioned gaskets. ;)

    Next idea?

Guess I'll be investing in a vacuum gauge next. :(

Dang it. I'm just tired of this. If I had some idea where to start. I mean you guys are helpful but it's hard enough to diagnose in person, let alone over the net.
