So I took delivery of my new old M38A1 yesterday. I really need to find the serial numbers to see if I can determine what year it was built. Anyway, I've noticed some interesting things that I never knew about them before.

    1) I heard the frame was boxed- they are though only in front of the front crossmember.
    2) There is no "JEEP" stamped in the sides of the tub.
    3) the floor under the fuel tank is much deeper... obviously for larger fuel tank.
    4) The firewall is flat and there is no hole where the heater is located on the ECJ5's
    5) The body mount locations are not the same. There appears to be additional bracing on the frame in back for the mounts. I'll get pics of this later today when I have it up on the lift.
    6) The frame has "loops" in it in 4 different places under the Jeep... I presume they are for tying it down while shipping.
    7) Lots of oddball brackets and holes present which aren't on my 5...

That's all for now... lots more to come!!!

Does restomod count as a valid answer? Not trying to dodge your question but I want it to still look like an M38A1 when it's done but it will definitely be modified....

    PICS ON THE WAY!!!!!

I almost forgot about that... There is a crossmember in the back which has a plate built into it specifically for mounting a weapon... though I thought it was for a 50 cal on the back.?.?.?....

body tag is located on the front of the pass side wheel well. as far as weaponry get a recoiless rifle. sure beats a machine gun, don't forget to get the different windsheild for it. (has a slot in it to hold the rifle in the travel pos)
