I got the head pulled last week and pulled the oil pan tonight at work. No sludge, but the oil was thin and alot of fuel in it. No broken piston rings, but the cyl walls show signs of rust/pitting from being locked up. I have a 3 Stone and brush hone on it's way so I'll try to clean the bores up and slap some new rings on. Rod bearings didn't look the best so I'll get new bearings too.
New gaskets top to bottom and I'll be putting the valve grinder I got to use also.

Guessing the fuel pump is leaking into the crankcase. I'm going to pull it tomorrow and see what rebuild kit I need for that.

    I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

Well, i got the valve grinding stone dressed and then the wheel didnt want to turn any more. Guess the bands/belts didnt like sitting around for 10+ years...

Think my problem is cyl 4. After honing you can feel and see the pitting half way in the cyl wall. Must have gotten some water in it at some point. At this point im just going to clean it up and put new rings in.
Valves will be done as soon as i find a new set of belts for the grinder

Got new bands and lubricant ordered for the grinder. Wow. I saw some prices for this machine while looking for parts:shock:

Figured out how the chuck works too finally. Have to hook up an air line for it:whistle:

Haven't had as much free time at work as i had hoped. Managed to get new belts and lube for the valve grinder yesterday. Ground the intakes today. I'm going in to work tomorrow to get the pistons back in and exhaust valves out. Gaskets show up monday so i should be able to make some progress after that.

I've got a couple of other Kwik-Way machines, and yes, they are proud of them. When grinding the valves, make sure to keep the margins (edge) within spec, especially on the exhaust valves. Your photo almost looks like a sharp edge.

I got the head put back together thursday and went in today and got the rods torqued down and timing cover sealed. The gasket kit i got has the rope seal and i need the formed rubber one. So no oil pan yet.

Going to see how the gasket and 3 bond sealant we use on the pentastar motors works. If that doesnt work, it wasnt meant to seal...

I got 3 out of 4 valves out. Got 1 that just didnt want to pop off the keepers. Stuck the spring compressor on the valve and closed the hood. Hopefully I'll come back Tuesday and it will have popped.

Very interesting, you are a pro. I did some work like this 50 years ago and never again, it needs good tools and knowledge and pratice. It took me so much time to succeed that I understood that it was not my job. Better to make my job well, get money, pay a pro mechanic and look at my girl-friend !

would you mind posting which valve spring compressor tool you use for the exhaust? This has been the snag in my jeep project, thanks for any help! Your project is looking good! Can't wait to see the finished product :)

Brought the jeep back home today. Just need to get the lower radiator hose and oil filter plumbed.

The old case did good as a push vehicle
