Does anyone know what the factory ink/paint stamps were to indicate. I have 2 Baja yellow R2's and one has a "525" stamp on the radiator cowl and a "N" stamp in the interior C channel and the other yellow has a "N" stamp on the radiator cowl. Now my 71 R1 has a "R" stamp in the C channel and nothing on the radiator cowl.

Interesting but likely not decipherable. You can make a guess about the "R" :) The factory would put marks on for their own tracking purposes, at the assembly line. Sometimes you see wax pencil numbers on the firewall, hastily written. They are cool though - an authentic touch!

True. On my firewall is a crayon scawl identifying it as a 1956 body, even though the dealer sold it as a '57.

Could be inspector marks, production control sequence numbers, something to do with option package (as suggested by Tim)... Pure speculation but we write all kinds of stuff on the things we build, but it gets painted over in the end.

I found a couple of these on my Tuxedo while working on the body.
