Does anyone run one of these? If so, can I see some pictures of how you set it up? I've seen 225 setups but not a aftermarket F134. I have a HiLo pump, so the stock setup is not ideal.

I was thinking about something like this:

    Universal Single-Remote Bypass System

    Thoughts?

LOL sounds good. I was drawn in by the "98.7 percent at two microns".

HOLY COW!!!! JC Whitney has an "oil filter relocation kit" for $60. Uses a standard spin on filter just like all modern Cars.

And you don't even get a filter with it!!

The secret here is to make sure you use a "bypass" oil filter, not a full flow type as found on modern engines. The bypass filter has a restriction in it that will keep your oil pressure up, a full flow filter will cause issues.

FYI I've actually pumped oil through a F4 with the pan off to see where it comes out at. At least with fresh bearings the vast majority of the flow is through the filter & timing gear nozzle, it pours out of the front pan in a pretty good stream- in contrast from the bearings it's more of a weep.

Will any bypass style setup work or is there some specific amount of pressure range we have to keep? It seems our oil lines are small.

Also, I'm a sucker for good filtration. The oil setup had me seriously debating yanking the F134 on that merit alone. This little turd has grown on me though lol.

The later F4's had a spin on system, whatever part number they used will be what you want. This has been discussed here before, a search should turn up the right info.

As long as you have 20-30 PSI off idle you're good, as a point of reference a fresh engine will hit 60 PSI at idle, that where the pressure release is set.

Lots of these engines went quite a ways with *no* filtration at all- regular oil changes are the key.

EDIT- from a review of old posts it appears the restricter is actually built into the base of the spin on units, not in the filter itself.

My F134 is one of those. It has a HiLo pump, so I can not use the OEM setup as they occupy the same space. I have searched for my setup and found mostly only V6 setups. I've also read people say "You're ok without it" but I can not bring myself to agree with this when some aftermarket filtration options exist. No oil filtration effectively precludes me from ever turboing this engine (which I think it is really well fit for).

I just went out and checked it out again to confirm. I have one external engine oil line coming from above the oil pressure pickup and running up to the rear of the head. That is it. It seems like I have 3 plugged oil pickups on the driver's side of the block.

Wix 51050 is what the later spin on filters were on the 134.

Jrobz23, welcome to the forum. I like you was concerned about the oil filter system on the 134 F head. I found a NOS 1952 short block military surplus motor to use in my restoration. I decided to pull the rear main off to look at the seal, when I saw it, the seal had etched the crankshaft where the seal had sat all those years, I pulled the crank out and sent it out to be polished. Put the crank back in with a new rear seal in it. A friend pointed out the oil filter got it's oil from the front hole in the gallery after it was pumped out of the pan, some oil returned to the engine without being filtered. Howard pointed out that most of the oil went to the filter, the bearings restricted the flow so most of the oil was filtered. I decided to drill and tap my oil pump for 1/4" pipe, installed a barbed fitting in it ran it to a fender mount spin on adapter. I blocked the outlet to the block so the oil had to go to the fender mount first, then drill and tapped the block into the oil gallery and ran the oil from the filter back into the oil gallery so any oil was filtered that was moving in the motor. Was it worth it? I don't know. I would not do it again, my stock 134 with 65K miles carries 45 lbs pressure, so the bearings are still good, so the stock system works. The key is what Howard said, change the oil a lot, I change mine at two to three thousand miles. I used 30w as I only drive it in warm weather. Good luck what ever you do. I hope this helps. PS, I put a kill switch on my motor so I can crank it until oil pressure comes up before I start it after long storages.

Digging this up again. Rick, that project sounds neat, and perhaps even optimal, but I'd like to get this done with no drilling. The idea is I'd use the port next to where my fuel pump was, and return to the timing gear case using existing bungs.

Found some not obnoxiously priced goods. I'd like to get some more eyes on it to help me avoid any dumb mismatch mistake.

If you have the original oil filter setup then you already have a remote system. I don't believe you would gain anything by buying a different one that does the same thing. Relocate it to a more convenient position and get the appropriate length hoses is all you need to do.

I have the HiLo pump. I have no oil filtration stock.

Sorry, I misinterpreted your original post. Anyway, all you need is an original equipment setup and just relocate it as I mentioned. Even if you get the canister style with the cartridge filter it will be fine.

just stick it up on the firewall, or on one of the fenders, and use longer hoses to connect to it.
And remember to place it with the top up, or you end up with a gigantic oily mess on the inside of the engine bay and all over your garage floor.
