    Hello,
I'm getting ready to put my M38A1 up for winter storage. For what we pay in Michigan for insurance it's not worth driving it over winter.
I have been running Valvoline VR1 10W-30 oil. This was for its high zinc content. However, reading more about the oil it sounds like it's not great for storage as it does not have a great corrosion inhibitor package.
Life would be so much easier if I could just run any conventional high mileage oil in the Hurricane engine. That would be much cheaper and easier to acquire than the fancy oil. Also it would have better corrosion inhibitors and detergents.
I have seen two schools of thought on the zinc oil issue. One is that you will destroy your camshaft by not using it. The other is that the issue of cam wear only applies to high performance engines with heavier valve springs.
So my question is, does anyone have actual evidence on this issue?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Ken I use Kendal 30w like it says in the FSM. I don't run my Jeep in winter. I don't know about cam wear, I do know that a lot of Diesels run 30W, if that makes any difference. I have used Kendal oil in all my four stroke Motorcycles since the 60's, and they are always clean inside when I take them down for any reason. Just my $0.02 worth. Good Luck
