F head vacuum line routing

    Hi Jon,
    I started restoring a '63 cj-5 in the middle 80's. It has been in storage until a few months ago, at about 98% original, after purchasing an ACME fiberglass top that wouldn't fit as I wanted. I just got tired of monkeying with it. The storage building had to be sold this year so now it sits in the yard for the Winter. In the Spring I'll get back into it and maybe get it registered for the road. It would be nice to drive it after all that work.
    This jeep had both passenger and drivers side, factory installed vacuum wipers. The vacuum line ran from the vacuum pump (below the fuel pump) along side the engine block, by way of a metal tubing, mounted by clips attached to two manifold studs; the same as your picture above. Unfortunately I lost the tubing that I know I had taken off long ago. Selling the building, moving lots of stuff, it got lost in the shuffle. I had it in my hands last Summer; now gone!
    I came here looking for the same vacuum line information your seeking, so this thread helped a lot jogging the old memory. I hope this helps with your question.
    By the way - I'd like to sell the top if you know anyone interested.

    The hole below the carb would have a "T" fitting with one side going to the PCV valve and the other used to drive the wipers, and yet another fitting to take off for the heater control.

    It doesn't really matter much where the vacuum comes from just as long as there is a vacuum source to drive those two items. The fitting that takes off for the heater control necks way down so that the tubing will fit over it. The wiper control tubing is the same size as the other metal tubing that goes to the PCV valve.

    Either or both of those items could also come off of the fuel pump if the pump is a two stage pump. The advantage for the fuel pump option is that the wipers won't stop working whilst one accelerates...

    Thanks Dannyboy. You are the only person who addressed the hard line for the vacuum system. I'm surprised I wasn't able to find any other information about the proper routing.

    I know I could hook up the vacuum wipers elsewhere, but I'm interested in knowing how it was done from the factory.

    Looking to do the same-great post.

    Maybe a video of the routing and how the PCV hooks up. I don't have a PCV. Valve cover open and the oil filler open to outside air.

    I wanted to circle back on this topic to help others. Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I am am almost certain the wipers were never intended to run off of manifold vacuum via the port just below the carburetor. The "T" there was only for if the vehicle was equipped with a vacuum operated heater control. The wipers are connected via the hard line that runs under the exhaust manifold.     Based on my research the wiper line should pass through the firewall as indicated here:

    Can someone please post a picture of the routing from the hardline under the exhaust manifold to the firewall?

    I know this thread is old, but I'm in the same boat trying to figure this out and trying to find the correct clips that attach the hard line under the manifold.

    The way my 64 was, the vacuum pump on the fuel pump went to the firewall to run the wipers, the "T" under the carb went to the PCV and the heater. Good Luck

    mine is a stock 64. The tower on the valve cover has a hose that goes down and connects to the PCV valve front side. The back side of the PCV valve connects to a hose that runs around and under the distributor, then forward above the generator, then across the front of the block, then down to the bottom of the fuel pump. The wiper vacuum hose comes up, around the fuel line then back thru the firewall, thru the dash and up to the wipers. IMG_20180411_095706629.jpg IMG_20180411_095842640.jpg
