I have read a thread concerning the importance of this cable. I need a picture of how it attaches to the engine. (or bell housing). I have the cable and I understand how the ball attaches to the cross member.
If there is a bracket on the engine end---I may or may not have it in the jeep salad that keeps creeping into my garage while the wife sleeps soundly because I have "promised" not to drag home any more projects or as she says "rust"!! (Sometimes I break my promises)
A pic or a previous thread on topic that has pic would be great!

    Thanks--Mike

The threaded end goes through the lower driver's side bolt hole on the bellhousing instead of a bolt. There should be a forked bracket on the crossmember to hold the ball end.

Here is a picture for you. As Howard stated above: If you look towards the bottom of the picture you can see where the cable goes through the bell housing and connects to the fork on the cross member.

Don't over-tension the stay cable. Just take up the slack, plus a little tension, then lock it in place with a nut on the back side of the bellhousing.

That cable was missing on my '60 when I got it 10 years ago. Do not see the purpose of it. My JEEP operates just fine without it.
