    I’m interested in knowing the manufacturing date on an F-134 engine # 53326. The engine is presently in a 54 3B but those numbers don’t seem correct for that model.

    Is there a number along with a letter that would indicate a particular model, like 4J if it belongs to a 3B?

    Edit: Just found out that an original 3B engine starts with the prefix 4J. CJ 5 engine?

    Thanks for the reply Steve.

    The 3B site was the first place I looked before posting here. It appears like #53326 could have been built in 54 but not having the prefix 4J excludes it from being an original 3B engine according to the 3B site.

    I have looked on my 51 pickup F-134 and there isn’t a number on the water pump boss so this gets me thinking it’s a CJ5 engine or other, if I’m correct they have the engine number on the water pump boss. If some of the guys would be kind enough to check their engine number and post them maybe I can piece it together. Thanks

    Edit: My engine number runs 4000 over the vin typically they run 2000-3000 over the longer their in circulation.

    I understand there are many V6s and 8s on the board, but for those that own the F-134 and would like to post their engine number I would greatly appreciate your help. Number located on the water pump boss. Thanks.

    Chuck- do you have any pics of the 3B? I don't think I've seen it.

    Someday, I'll have a 3B ;)

    Thanks Dennis, it wouldn’t of worked for me either, but Andy was willing to work with me price wise to make it happen.

    Now, if only I could get a CJ 5 engine number. :rofl:

    Thanks Sid, I was expecting the CJs wouldn’t have the 4J prefix, do all CJ5 original F-134 have a prefix of 4J similar to the 3B?

    Chuck, I don't believe they all do. The motor in my '56 supposedly came out of a 3b. That has the 4J prefix in it too. I have another block that came out of a late '60's CJ-5 that I was going to use but it ended up being cracked. That has a 4F prefix,although I suspect it was a reman as it was painted blue and the crank had been turned. Not helping much am I?

    I have two with the 4J prefix, one with an MD prefix, and one with a numerical only serial. The 4J's came from a 3B and 5. Can't say what the others came from.

    William, there seems to be evidence building to suggest that the 3B and CJ 5 start with the prefix 4J. I only wish you knew what the numerical only serial number originally came out of. Thanks

    prior to 1967, all F4-134 engine codes were marked 4J plus serial number
    (so what happened to 1968?)

    First digit = market
    M = military
    E = export
    D = domestic

    Second digit = year
    R = 1969
    S = 1970
    T = 1971

    Third digit = engine
    F = F4-134

    Fourth thru sixth digit = Day of year built, plus change if any

    Seventh thru eighth digit = undersize rods-mains/oversize bores
    (only present if applicable to other than standard)

    Ninth digit = replacement value using factory engine
    S = service engine
    R = short block

    Tenth and eleventh = compression ratio
    60 = 6.0 to 1
    63 = 6.3 to 1
    67 = 6.7 to 1
    71 = 7.1 to 1
