On my '68 Commando with a Dauntless V6, I installed Hedman Hedders and Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers which take the exhaust back another 20". I'm not sure if I should add another 18" and let the exhaust go under the Commando or use 2 foot elbows and route the exhaust out the sides before the rear tires. I am concerned about the exhaust under the Jeep with the gas tank back there. Any suggestions are welcome.

I have a 69 and I am looking at running the exhaust out in front of the rear tires. It was that way when I bought and I like the look. I am actually probably going to run it through the rocker to tuck it up under the Jeep more. I wouldn't think it would be a problem to run it out the back though. Just have to watch the springs and make sure your not going to crush it somehow.

Thanks for the advice. The Hedman's come really close to the rockers. I only have about a 2" clearance. I think I will go with the side discharge like you. I'll just have to add a 2 foot elbow to the rear of the muffler and have it point down a little bit..

Mine used to come out right at the end of the rocker pretty much. Just before the wheel well starts. Good luck with it! I would love to see some pictures of it if you get a chance sometime.

FWIW, I have duals on the Moss that exit just in front of the rear tires. Other than a few times sitting still in a breeze, I've never had any issues with fumes re-entering...

My brothers CJ7 with duals out the back is a whole different story!
