I have the exhaust manifolds off a 1981 camero which for that year was a 231 e/f buick motor. If I put the passenger side manifold on the driver's side on my 225 in a 1968 commando will it create enough clearance to do the saginaw steering? This manifold is much closer to the block then a stock 225 manifold and is shorter after the last exhaust port.3 and 1/2 inches verses 5 inches.I'm also wondering what power steering hoses to use?I would still have the driver's side going out the front but hugging the block,it would also be closer to the fuel pump but I think the heat shield would take care of that.If I use the regular driver's side manifold off the camero it will require some welding- as in take to a shop that can heat the manifold before welding so I don't lose it all together.Unforunately the camero manifold for that side also has a smog valve attached between it and the exhaust pipe for that side so that would require additional work.I cann't see where that old smog exhaust valve would do me any good.I'll have to look at it tommorrow to see if it would get in the way of the power steering pump but I don't think so.Any way any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Don't recall having ever heard of that coming up before, using a right side manifold on the left, but first thing you'll want to check is the port size on the 81 compared to the 225. That's right around the time they went to the taller ports.

I thought that the taller ports were on the intake side of the heads?

nope, the taller ports were on the exhaust manifolds also. You're better off getting manifolds from a 77 or 78 Buick 231. They have the smaller ports that you need. The 81's were taller and narrower.
