Last week I decided to check the points on LeRoy. Took the cap off, checked the points with
feeler gauge and needed to adjust them. Got screwdrivers and reset them, put the cap back
on and hit the key...… Would not hit a lick ! I set there a minute running my brain trying to figure
out what I did wrong. Jumped out, raised the hood, took the cap off and there it was. The rotor
was still sitting on top of the battery...
I might be losing it ???

ps. it did start and run better...….

Instead of saying, "I'm losing it." I perfer to say, "I was multi-tasking one to many things."
Changed the points on my car once the night before heading to work in the morning. I was in a hurry and changed wires, plugs, points, and condensor.
I knew not to do them all at once with out starting the car, but I was in a hurry. Put them all on, would not crank a lick. Had to troubleshoot each thing one at a time. It took forever and found the groung lead still one the old points.
Now I do one thing and crank it, then on to the next. The next time I changed all those parts, the new condensor was bad out of the box. Since I cranked the engine after putting on each part I found it quickly, because I had just put it on.

Forgot to put the oil drain plug back in once. That made a mess.

Working too many hours checked the oil in my Corolla and left off the oil fill cap. Threw oil all over the engine and smoked. Went to the Jiffy Lube and they said, somebody who worked on this left off the oil cap. I said that would be me. Now when I change the oil, after I close the hood, I check it again.
I did that twice, so no, I not loosing my mind.

I once forgot to install the oil filter on a 9qt race engine. Id swear all 9 qts of Joe Gibbs oil went on the floor in the 10 seconds it ran before I noticed.

Not a rotor but kind of a similar scenario...
My pole barn shop is about 40 yards away from the house garage, many times I have been working in the shop and need something from the garage. I typically just make a mental note of what it is and continue on with other tasks and will get stuff from the garage later.
I can't begin to count the number of times I've walked up to the garage, pass through the garage door and find myself just standing there wondering what it was I came to get.
This has happened enough times that I now write stuff down on a note pad before I leave the shop.

I take some solace that I may not be the only one that does this...Walking through doorways causes forgetting, new research shows

That's just working on too many things at once. I think there are garage gremlins moving my tools.

Just happened tonight with a chisel. Went to throw away some trash and when I came back, the chisel
was gone. Now I'm afraid to carry out the trash until I find the chisel.

I have a large re-siding/window replacement project going on. Over the past week I've misplaced my lime green and aaaaaaanother bright orange tape measure numerous times. They are a 25' and 35' wide blade and hard to misplace. There are several other tools that I continue to mis-lay, but those two are the most frequently looked for. Must buy tool belt.

When I do projects that require saws, I keep one tape measure at the saw (garage/driveway) and another at the project (usually inside the house). I got tired of going back and forth when I would forget to bring it with me.

I can't say it's full proof... Sometimes 2 tapes end up in the same place... And it's usually not where I need them. :banghead:

Good planning. I always end up with both at the same point also. Went up to our cabin and I had 8 or 10 projects planned out. I stained wood while things were being glued, electrical work, some small tile work, hooked up a dehumidifier, touching up paint, and weed eating and mowing, putting up shelves. I thought I had lost my mind for 2 or 3 days. So many work sites and the tools were always at the wrong place. Next time we went up, I did one job and then moved on, and I didn't feel so scattered.
