Drivetrain Length? Bellhousing To End Of Tcase?

    What is the length of stock Jeep Drivetrain?
    Bellhousing/T90/Dana18

    I couldnt find it online which was kind of odd for me.

    Since mine is on the shop floor, Bell housing (V6) - 6.25" and T-90 to back of Dana18 - 15.75". Total of 22".

    So with a 2a are you asking about 4 cyl drivetrain?

    I have a few thoughts in my head for a swap and just getting measurements down first :)

    The T-90 bolts directly onto the bell-housing for the 4 cyl so remove 2-1/4" from above dimension as no adapter is used, however I don't know if above dimension includes the output flange/parking brake assy.

    Sorry for the confusion. The front of the T-90 to the back of the parking brake drum on the Dana 18 is 17". This doesn't include the adapter to the V6 bell housing.

    134 bellhousing = 7.125"
    Front of bellhousing to rear vertical engine block (additional firewall clearance) = 1.375"
    T90 OAL = 8"
    Front mounting face of Dana 18 transfer case is 2-5/8" behind middle of engine support centerline.
    In other words the rear face of transmission is 2-5/8" behind middle of crossmember.

    What is the Dana 18 thickness? From mount face to center of Rear shaft yoke?

    I have lots of various measurements jotted down for various trannies and such but don't recall measuring that.
    I know a D20 and a D18 generally don't set in the same crossmember locations.
    The D18 will have a longer rear propeller shaft than a D20.

    What do you have in mind ?

    Since i am going to upgrade the 4cyl in the YJ for a V8 and stretch it, I will have a perfectly good 4cyl with 84k miles and a AX5 with about 2000 miles on it. So i was thinking about a new home with it. As of now doing the inch math to see what rear driveshaft i would have about 12 inch long shaft (in straight line) with the axle and Tcase being at an angle i may get a few more inches. I still have to look more and see how long my engine is. Of course this leads to power steering upgrade and swinging pedals ;) I was able to throw a tap on the floor and it looks like the Lhead/T90/dana18 package is a total of 4 foot long from fan to tcase output. Just thinking aloud right now. Heck the Lhead might fire right up after i found the loose Main jet in the carb, but it doesnt hurt to dream :)

    It sounds like you are considering an offset output (D18) and a centered diff in the axle (Model 20?). This combination doesn't play well together, especially with a short driveshaft. The Willys wagons and pickups did this, but they have about 4' long reat driveshafts.

    A Dana 300 should bolt up to the AX5, correct?

    Oh no, i was going to keep the stock axles in it. I didnt realize they had an adapter for the ax5 to dana 18. And it was relatively cheap. Still thinking. I saw one thread with pictures of a 2.5l in the frame but not much after. I need more measurements of engine height. I could cheat and forgo the mechanical fan for an electric job and i have some space to trim grill. Just like my m38a1 project, it is a battle of measurements :) Thanks!!

    OAL of F-134 from front of fan blade to rear of bellhousing = exactly 30".
    Front face of transfer case to rear face of companion flange is 8-3/8".
    As you know the companion flange yoke holds the Cardan cross (universal) to the companion flange.
    There are 2 different lengths of companion flange yokes.
    The early short yoke extends the center of Cardan cross to the rear another 1-1/2".
    The longer (late) companion yoke is 1-3/4" long.
    The advantage of the longer companion yoke is that it allows for steeper propeller shaft angles.
