hey guys so last night I took my 68 CJ5 225 out for its first test run and it did great was lots of fun.... till this morning when I discovered I had twisted my rear drive shaft nearly to the point of breaking.... Now I have an amc 20 rear axle and I am not sure what transfer case ( I'm still new to this jeep stuff ) and I wanted to know where I could get a stronger drive shaft or have one made?

Most cities will have a custom drive-shaft shop. Ask at the local parts store. Mine rebuilt a shaft at 10% of the dealer price for a new one.

On-line, Tom Wood is well regarded. http://www.4xshaft.com/

Model 20 rear axle wasn't used in a '68. Are you sure? If it is, it was swapped in. Probably means you don't have the stock Dana 18 t-case either. Pics would help ID

Yup, pics are needed here if both the transfer case and rear axle. A Quadratrac rear axle could have been swapped in and use the 18 transfer case, a centered AMC 20 could have been swapped with the 18 ( bad, bad previous owner, bad driveline angles), or a centered transfer case with a centered 20. Or maybe it's not a 20 rear?
I recently had one built by a guy off E-Bay out of Utah. Curtis Tatton iirc. He built it to my specs, nice and heavy duty, 7" of travel, and all new parts. Even came with new Spicer premium U-joints already installed. Received it in a week after I spoke to him on the phone to give him the dimensions. It was $150 shipped and made from all Spicer parts and balanced. Very happy with the product.

well like I said it was its first time out the clutch was a bit grabby and it didn't get launched hard at all but looking at the old drive shaft its pretty much a tin can I'm not sure if it was a stock shaft or not but whatever it was built for it would have never handle the v6

All it takes is one very small dent to create a weak spot.
