1972 jeep commando. It has a lift with 35" tires.
It just doesn't look right. Long shackles and a big curve in the springs.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Looks goofy as hell, as far as safe, In the back prolly not gonna kill you but I'd have to do something better with it..

Yeah, I agree, haven't had a chance to drive it yet but I'm sure it has handling issues. Looks like PO wanted a big jacked up rig and did what everybody else does and lift and get BIGGER tires. He's got 35's on there now. I'm sure the rear axle could be a Dana 44, but not sure what gears. The angles on the driveshaft is horrible. Looks like a good bit of work to just get right.

72 is definitely a 44, more than likely 3.73. What's the front look like?

it looks safe but you have to decide what you want to do with it. Keeping the 35s you might as well leave it. if you have the clearance to put smaller shackles on then you should do that first. I would tie the shackles together with a square tube between the plates if you decide to keep them

Do you think those gears are good for those size tires?
I do like the look, but more concerned about safety.
its got some Diamond plate on it as well, so not sure if it was put there to cover up a rusted out spot.

I have ran 33" tires with 3:73 gears with a strong 225 V-6 and a T-86 tran's and it was not very good on dead stop take off's. I switched to 4:27's and it is much more enjoyable to drive. I would'nt think that you would like the 3:73 gears with 35" rubber but it likely depends on what engine & tranny is in it, Oz

It has a V8 with 3 speed automatic.
yep not to sure about the 35's, I'll probably be taking them off and selling. And go to 33's.
