As the title states, found a local Craigslist ad for a bunch of OEM new in box parts that a local route driver had purchased for their personal fleet of early to late 70's DJs. Included in the list are drums, brake shoes, springs, shocks along with carb rebuild kits, tie rods ends, master cylinder, etc. Would these be interchangeable with the suspension on my 74 CJ5?.I'm not doing a concours restoration, but I don't want a restomod either. I like the idea of as much OEM/factory spec replacement parts as possible. Really the shocks and springs are the most important part to me.

    Thanks for any insight.

Now are these parts for postals (ie DJ-5A/B/C/D etc) or for regular DJ-5s? If it's for postals, my impression is that they are really different from the regular DJs. The regular DJs are basically a CJ with no transfer case and a tube front axle. Some of the DJ parts are listed in the regular '74-80 parts book (ca $100 reprint) but by application, not by number. If you had a list of PNs, you could try the RockAuto PN lookup, and see if any of the aftermarket suppliers list that PN as crossing to their parts - many times that will work.

Pretty sure the postals had their own parts book, since I don't recall any listings in the parts book for anything but a model 80. If they are for postals, I would leave them to the places that specialize in those vehicles.

The AM general jeeps were, apart from the driveline, basicly pre- '72 DJ jeeps with 11" bendix brakes. Suspension & brake parts should interchange.

If you don't have a parts manual cross refernece things on the Rockauto site.

    X2 on cross-referencing the parts.

"Included in the list are drums, brake shoes, springs, shocks along with carb rebuild kits, tie rods ends, master cylinder, etc."

For the brake parts you would need to know if they were for 10" or 11" brakes and go from there. The carb kits would also be specific to the carb. I used CJ shocks on my DJ5F. The rear springs are wider but I don't know about length. The master cylinder is on the frame for DJ5A-E. On the DJ5F the master cylinder moves up to the firewall and has a suspended brake pedal. The seller should know what they were purchased for if he stocked parts.

EDIT - Not quite so sure on the front springs. IDK about front springs on the 74 CJ. The front springs would work on 71 and older. Sorry.
