I want to do the saginaw conversion with the DJ column (to retain the stock look), but I have a few questions.

    1. How well does it work with the stock exhaust manifold and pipes?
    2. Does it work better with headers?
    3. When I get the column do I get it all the way to the rag joint?
    4. Any other info would be helpful.

BTW, I don't want to cut and fab from my original column, or have a tilt wheel.

It will bolt right in-get everything to the rag joint and don't forget the underdash brace from the DJ, without it the dash will be really weak without the rossbox at the bottom bolted to the frame. It will clear your stock manifold if you position the new box correctly.

Thanks 181jeep. For those who have ordered from AAA, will they send the brace for the column also? Everything included?

Also, does anyone have the pdf from AdvanceAdapters on the saginaw conversion? They don't have it on the web site anymore.

Quaggy, are you talking about the brace for the floor or the one that bolts to the dash, when I bought mine I got the brace for the floor but the one on the dash is almost the same as the one on your cj now. I did not order my column as I am the one that put the link up originally as I only live about 5 miles from AAA motors to start with, if you just ask these people they are very nice and informative and will tell you everything that comes with this unit, they know almost everything about the postal jeeps but are not really into older cj's and weren't even aware when I bought my column 4 years ago that they were able to bolt them into an older model CJ.

When I bought mine I got the steering column, steering wheel, the steering shaft for the box, the u-joint to connect the column to shaft (spicer style)and the rag joint. The turn signal for the dj is different from the cj but will work if they include it I did not want it and let them keep it.

Thanks Mcruff, I was talking about the brace on the floor. As far as the turn signals, I think I can just bolt the old one onto the new column. Does that sound right? I'm not sure if the columns are the same diameter, but it sounds like they are. From looking on previous posts, price is about $125? I might go to Denver and do a search of the junk yards before I order from AAA. Thanks for the info.

The turn signal fits fine and the column is the same diameter.
$125 is what I paid for mine.

I was talking about the brace from the firewall to the dash, I've done several of these and don't know what floor brace you are talking about. There was no dash brace on any of the early 60's cj's I've done. Are you talking about the sheet metal flange at the floor? Yes that is required and attaches with 3 sheet metal screws. Original column just had a grommet at the floor hole.

After rereading some of your posts, are you guys calling the U-clamp that holds the column tube to the dash a brace?

I have never seen a firewall brace on any of them I have taken out, they all tied into the floor and the dash panel, I just formed a brace and a clamp for the floor so that the column was ridgidly mounted between the dash panel and the floor panel.
