Has anyone here rebuilt their own distributor? I have the IAY 4012 with points for now. They don't make a Pertronix for it and the custom option may be too much money. I do want to restore the distributor but the place I found (Home) wants $190. They claim will look like brand new and pics are nice but at what cost. So I looking at option of doing it myself. Not worried about points, etc. as I can handle that. These seem pretty simple but before I pull it, medial blast it to remove old paint and rust, etc., just curious of others experiences.

What can wear out ... the bushings in the body that the shaft rides on. The advance weights and advance weight pivots. The drive gear. If any of this stuff is worn, I think you'll need a machine shop to replace it. But you can take the distributor apart and clean and inspect it. Don't lose any pieces. If nothing is terribly worn (ie the bushings in the body), put it back together clean with new electrical parts and it should be fine.

Seems like the service parts for distributors are only available to the remanufacturing companies.
