    1. I have a 1971 jeep renegade II. I believe the front axle to be a dana 27. has anyone done a disc brake swap like the one in the tech page? Will this improve the brakes a ton or am i good just to redo the drum?
    2. How do I post pics of my Jeep? is there an instruction page or??
3.I heard that only a few of my jeep were made, it is 71 renegade II in the Big Bad Orange setup. does anyone know how many, and is this a good thing?

Disc brake swap is one of the best mods I have done. Now she stops straight and true. All parts are OEM except the bracket that mounts the Bendix caliper fork (ie. mounts the caliper). I did have to cut the extra bump stop off the short side to allow full turning of the wheel. Seriously consider upgrading MC to dual system. AM

A Mandery, I have a 66CJ5 and just starting to build back up from the frame. Just finished second coat of urethane on the frame. Would like to change to disc brakes and saginaw steering. Any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated. Billf

Bill - both of these topics have been covered at length both here in the forum and in the site's tech pages. A couple minutes searching will probably get you a few days reading material...;)

Sounds like you have a nice Jeep. have you found out how to post pictures yet?,,would love to see some pics.

sparky the link you posted I couldnt get to work, he may not have gotten yet.

mainly all I do to post pics is upload it to my homepage, then link the pic in my message by putting a "[IMG]" around it(without the quotes) and it will show up in the post

disc brake swap is worth every bit of money and time you'll put into it. mine went from having to pick a line on the road and say "if it turns yellow after this point i've got to run it" to being able to lock them up when someone pulls out in front of me. most definately not worth throwing the 9 inchers back together.

You all think it's such a good idea to put a lot of money and effort into a D27? A '76 or later D30 will get you both open knuckles and disk brakes.

Didn't work because I posted it before we made changes. It worked then. ;)

I've added a redirect. It works now.

I had to make the decision a couple of years back when my D27 needed to be rebuilt. 11" brakes, PowrLok, knuckle studs all there now..;)

And the short answer is - yea, I think it was worth it. Cost and effort-wise it was probably about a wash, and there's just something about running the original front axle yet that appeals to me. Moreso because the D27 takes such abuse from the "Pirate" crowd as being "weak", yet how many old CJs are still running around 40 years later with them under the front end yet?

I'm also planning the drilled drum approach for disk-like performance w/o the added wieght.

if it's between bolting something up or taking the front springs back down/having fun with a jack and dragging an axle between the springs then yeah, the disc conversion will do just fine. that and welding he new perches on the axle and correcting for the caster problems lynn had could make for some interesting times. why not leave it at something that'll take a max of three hours instead of a drawn out process?? and i'll look into the knuckles when mine show signs of failure... been 35 years so far so i don't think they're going anywhere anytime soon.
