Guys - I ordered a short shaft kit for a T18 - I thougth it was supposed to have the front bearing retainer machined for a GM TO, but that's not what the site is saying now (don't know if it's me or they changed it).

Doing some eyeball fitting, and it seems the TO is not GM as it's larger than the bearing retainers I have for the other swaps I do.

Any one have a handy measurement of what this needs to be? All my TO stock is burried (that's what I get for having 2 builds in the shop at once).

The V6 is good to know too. I have a bearing retainer for a T-14 that I measured against, which is why I am wondering about the GM one. Gonna see if I can crawl under a bench and measure an SM465 too.

Diameter measures 1.370" and length of area where the to bearing rides is 2.330. Oal from face of transmission face minus gasket is 3.175". This is with cheap digital calipers and measured from a stock gm BW T-10 front bearing retainer. May be a few thousandths off but should give you a good idea. Oal diameter where it fits into the bellhousing is 4.684" . Hope this helps some.

Yep! thats what i've got, 1.370" dia. the stock TO bearing I.D. is 1.380". Thats from a T-86. The length from the face of the trans is 3.350" and the bellhousing is 4.685" dia. I'm in the middle of a T-18 swap also, I machined the ford bearing retainer to the specs from the T-86 and so far so good. Hope this helps Mike.

That confirms that I didn't get the bearing retainer I thought I was getting. Guess I'll just take this one down and get it machined. I opened up the BH to take the retainer, and I want to keep things consistant as I know I'll be working on it.

    Thanks guys.

Yep on our T-15 install to the 225V6, I had the T-15 bearing retainer cut down to fit the T-86 T.O. bearing to keep the clutch pieces stock. Works great.
