The defroster's in my '97 Tj are not working, sorta. I've done some reading on the matter and seems that the air diverter thingy will break at the pivot point and the force from the fan will snap it shut, rendering the defroster vents pretty much useless. It seems the common fix is to screw a wood screw through the control arm into the pivot point. I have a drawing showing which arm to run the screw through, but I was wonder if any of you guys have a better solutions or some tips on how to fix it.

You need to find exactly where the problem is, whether it be a broken blend door pivot, or a vacuum issue (the heater controls and doors/ flaps are vacuum controlled). Are you sure it isn't a vacuum issue on yours? Fairly commone for the connection at the vacuum reservoir under the battery to come off or get damaged..

I'm not entirerly sure what the issue is, I really haven't dug to deep into it. The thought never crossed my mind to check the vaccum lines I'll look there when It isn't freezing cold here. Just looking for ideas right now.

Well I went though and fixed it. It turned out to be a broken pivot all the vaccum lines were good. I ended up screwing a wood screw into the busted pivot and it seems to be working alright now.
