When you take it apart, shake your float to see if there is any fuel in it. If brass, it could have a leak in the solder seam.

My truck had this issue and drove me nuts until I finally figured out what the issue was. The microscopic leak was on the bottom of the float. Atmospheric pressure and temp changes would raise/lower the float by expanding/contracting the air inside and filling or emptying the gas in the float.

    Good luck.

It's also possible for the fuel pump to actually put out too much pressure and overpower the needle and seat. It's not common, but I have seen it happen before...

I am thinking that possibly the float drop is set too low which will allow too much travel of the needle. If this happens the needle will try to go sideways and not slide into position to close off the fuel. This condition happens mostly when car sets for extended time and the float bowl empties allowing float to drop to max.

    Just to clarify.
This last bout there is no flooding, just a no start without some taps and a floored accelerator...
    And won’t stay running.

Looks like top is coming off at minimum.

    carb torn down and cleaned...
new clear inline filter indicated might be a fuel pump issue.. oil has distinct 91 octane smell....

so much for new parts being better than old parts

Ruptured fuel pump diaphragm won't cause carb flooding.

Have you tried it yet with new fuel pump and oil change if overly contaminated with gas?

With these symptoms I would check to make sure the fuel is clean and check for water in fuel. Probably good to dump in some red heet or other fuel treatment.
