Need some help on factory lay out of dash knobs and switches.

From what i have gathered ,

lights, wipers, hazard, and am meter and oil pressure gauge , choke above and between those 2 gauges. all of this driver side of steering column ?

right side,.... top hole cig lighter? below that (auto locking hub switch?) or wiper washer switch? ( or can both be there? ) then ignition switch , and speedometer, ?

What am i missing , anyone have a good pic of the dash lay out?

Mine has lights in original spot , wipers have been moved to grommet hole, choke was moved next to lights, lighter is gone, and wiper washer switch , is gone, ammeter, and oil pressure gauge is in original loc. speedometer is still original,

dont have a camera, atm but i think wife picked one up today

You're welcome! Not my sites, but I bookmarked them because I thought they had a lot of good Renegade pictures.

LOL i have both of those bookmarked as well

my dash looks more like the green one

but I cant zoom in enough to see whats on the knobs :(

And once i figure out how to post pictures from my wife's android phone

    You will see it.

and I want everyone's opinion on what they think of the radio cut out , I swear it looks stamped , and nut cut out , and not even cut with a plasma cutter.

The piece of sheet metal under the dash that shields the radio looks factory installed.

Or did they offer a duel knob CB radio back then ??

The PO said it was a limited addition , wonder if that (the factory radio installed ) radio , was the limited item?

I will let you guys be the judge when i post pics

AMC offered radios, my 71 had one, it was an AM push button with the AMC logo. There were no cb's offered in 71. I don't think the CB craze started until 74 or 75 with CW Mcall's "convoy" song. The radio cut out was a rectangle with a hole on either side. I still have the cut out but it has been enlarged so the measurements won't be right. I do still have the radio stashed somewhere if you really need measurements.

IIRC, my dash layout was lights, wiper, wash, flasher, choke. on the other side of the column there was keyswitch, then speedo cluster. No factory gauges, just idiot lights in the speedo cluster. I think renegades did have factory gauges, but I don't know where they were located. No cigarette lighter on mine. The heater controls mounted on the bottom lip of the dash under the speedo.

my lighter housing is still there but the actual lighter is not, ,,now to the left of my lighter , there is a whole ,with a slight notch in it, and below that, there is another, that I have seen locking hub knob, (maybe front PTO switch?). to the right of those ,is my ignition, then speedometer , then the radio cut out ,then glove box.

Homersdog , you cleared up where the washer knob goes, ......dang nabbit .....i need to be able to post a pic, I feel so archaic with out a camera LOL

but between the steering column and the ignition there are 2 holes (one which i have seen as a auto locking hubs) what fills the other hole?

and my window washer jet is still in the hood also .

my dash looks like this one

can anyone add to what homersdog on what the rest may or could be as options?

I have three other things on my 71, but not sure if done after-market. 1. To the left of my ignition switch (key) is a push-button ignition switch; in other words, you turn the key and then hit the button to fire it up. PO says came that way from the dealer in 71...not so sure. 2. To the left of the ignition key and slightly below, is a throttle control. Similar to the choke cable but just keeps engine at constant speed so you don't have to use your foot. I've disconnected it...too dangerous when plowing. 3. I have two gas tanks, one under seat and one in rear. There's a switch down to the left of the ignition key but way down at bottom of dash that is connected to the gas gauge so that you can tell level of either tank A or tank B. Looks like "dealer option" to me.

Here's a pic before I tore it all down for a little restoration.

Wow your dash has all kinds of bells and whistles.

What is the knob not labeled up and to the right of the ignition, or is that labeled 1, and is that the push button start?

And to the left of your ignition what is that shinny flat looking button.

that is where my radio is also.

    Lets see the left side

and is the little black box mounted under the dash the heater?

    thanks for pics

The factory radio was never installed in the dash, if that's what you are asking. AFAIK the only "Jeep" radio was a dealer-installed under-dash unit, prior to 1976. From '76 on, there was a provision for a radio and a speaker in the dash, IIRC.

Oil and amp gauges were first available on the Renegade, located to the left of the column as in Wyomikes' orange Renegade and the green Renegade, both linked to earlier. These were black bezel gauges (Stewart-Warner, but not labels "S-W" on the face). The 1972 Renegade also had the black bezel gauges, but they were moved to each side and below the main cluster. 1973 and on got chrome bezel gauges, and the ammeter was changed to a voltmeter in 1975.

Yes, that's the heater controls, under the dash.

Re the push button starter switch, I'm certain it's been added (ie a PO mod, not Jeep).

This is a pretty good pic, but it has some extra stuff too. The button above the steering column is just a plug, from the factory.

so basicly my dash is screwed because they cut it out, BBAAAHHH

figures, with my luck lol .

So should i just patch the radio cut out ?

Leave it and get a old school dual knob radio, but modern radio

put an old am/fm radio in it

    replace the whole dash?

The jeep will never bee back factory to many things missing, but I still dont want to be just willy nilly about the build, if ya know what i mean

Up and to the right of the ignition is the cig lighter.

The shiny flat "button" labeled as #1 is now a chrome hole-filler because I'm hiding the push-button start under the dash (poor man's security system). I agree with Tim, pretty sure it's a PO addition based on the crummy wiring job done for it (no dealer would have been that sloppy).

I've pulled the radio out and can tell it was cut into dash by PO. Since it's already buggered, I'm just going to clean the cut up and stick a CB in the dash. For music, I just have an amp and speakers under the dash and plug the Ipod in when needed (less to be stolen).

Yup, Tim's right again, that's the heater control attached to the lower dash lip.

Don't have any left-side dash shots put on Photobucket yet. Will try to get something in a day or two.

Hey JIMGR , I cant wait to post my dash pics and jeep picks , and the engine bay, I will try to make them as big as I can ,

I want you to dissect them and tell me what I am missing and what you think is PO installed or factor installed.

My rear wheel wells look like factory holes for maybe a pad to sit on, or something , what was usually installed on the rear wheel wells?

OOOH yeah I know without pics this might be hard but, my windshield frame, on the inside edge, there is a series of holes on both sides, 2 big holes(3/8 big) that go all the way through, like a door hinge mounted up there, or something , and 2 small holes(1/8 big ) one on top of the 2 big holes and one on bottom.

so if you look at the inside edge of the windshield about half way up, you see 4 holes 1 small 1 big, another big, then another small, all in a perfect row, like some kind of bracket bolted there or heavy duty trim item, big holes for a light weight trim item.

That is why i said door hinge, because the 2 big holes you can see from the outside and inside, the upper and lower small holes you can not see on the outside.

LOL if you can surmises, what it is without pics, with all that babble I just typed ..............YOU would be the BADest MAMA fu..er LOL :)

My dash pad (1975 CJ6) is wrong for your Jeep - sorry :coffee: ;)

I worked as a gopher / parts monkey at a major Jeep dealer when I was very young. They tried to make a mechanic of me, but I was too slow. What you learn at that age stays with you...

There were accessory pads that were installed on the wheel wells and were held down with snaps. Not compatible with a roll bar though. I likely have a picture ... you can see the corner of one here (old picture).

I don't recall any unused holes in the windshield larger than 1/4". Pic.

The Jeep has a soft top now. I umm... dislike the steel cabs. Heavy, noisy, cold... dd I mention heavy? Top heavy. They really change the handling.

Better picture of the pad. The space behind the seat is CJ-6.

Yes, it has doors. Lift one (oof!)
