I had posted a week ago but oil levels in a Dana 30. So I am looking over my rear axle and it has no vent, but it appears there is a weep hole. I find it hard to believe this is stock. Should I fill the hole with rtv or weld it closed. Or perhaps this is a standard hole on a 60's something Dana 44? 20170829_123333.jpg

To my knowledge it's a standard hole. yours definitely isn't the 1st Jeep from that era to have one.

That's the standard civilian version vent, the military ones have a vent/pressurization fitting on the pumpkin.

Most are plugged solid, I welded mine up & put a vent/hose where the military one is.

What Howard says! Plug up what you have and put a real vent in the center casting, or a hose barb with a small hose routed up high with a downturned end.
