I was wondering if anyone has ever fitted a Dana 25 wheel hub on a disk brake Dana 30? My Dana 30 axle had the 5 bolt style locking hub flange on the wheel hubs so I swapped the inner bearing to the later bearing on my Dana 25 wheel hubs. The dimensions seem similar to the 30 hub and the larger inner bearing fit OK. My only problem so far has been that I can't find a inner wheel seal to use that has the inner diameter of the late spindle with the outer diameter of the wheel hub. I might just have to order a seal based on dimensions only. The other question I have is do the late style 6 bolt locking hubs fit the early wheel hub? They look like the same mounting flange as the late six bolt hubs that I will need for my 27 spline axles. I don't have my locking hubs yet to check. Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm currently in the middle of changing out my 25 to the 30. If I have electric when I get home tonight I'll look at the two and let you know what I've found.

This may be a little off subject but it's close. Will the ring and pinion out of the 25 fit the 30?

It should be the same. The only real differnce is the spindles. Early spindles had the same diameter for thefront and rear wheel bearings, the later disc 30s use the larger inside bearing. Butthe OD of the bearings where the same for the 25/27/30.

    correct
you would use the wheel seal for disc brakes, as the spindle seal surface is larger diameter.
    78 and later CJs
    the Jeep P/N is/was: 5356675
maybe someone else has the CR or another brand number
maybe you can cross the Jeep number to CR or ?
    should be a common number

The rotor fits the hub OK as you can see in the picture I have posted. I did manage to fit the 25 hub on the 30 disk brake spindle by changing to the larger inner wheel bearing but I am having trouble finding an inner grease seal to work.
As for the ring gear fitting the 30, the answer is no. The ring gear is the same diameter but it uses less bolts to hold it to the differential carrier. The thickness of the gear looks to be different and there may be other issues that I didn't obviously see as well. I have a new set of Dana 25 4:10 gears that I wish fitted my 30 but I guess I will need to buy a gear set for the 30.

That is the route I tried for seals. The inner diameter fits the spindle right but the outer diameter does not fit into the hub. I don't quite get it. The bore of the later hub must be stepped or tapered as the bearing race seems to fit both. The later seal is nearly 1/8" too big to fit in the bore of the 25 hub. The seal I ended up with was a CR 23035. I ended up using the original Dana 25 inner seal by cutting out the second lip of the double lip seal that this particular seal had. It is a tight fit but it will work for now. I would like to find one that fits it correctly and change it later when I pull it apart again to assemble the rest of the axle when I do the buildup. I just need it rolling right now. Thanks.

??????? Yes I could do that but I am trying to work with what I have. I was hoping to get away with the 25 wheel hubs so I could save a couple of bucks and not have to buy some 6 bolt style Dana 30 wheel hubs. I was hoping someone might have some experience with this swap. I still haven't received an answer of whether the later style Warn hubs with 27 splines will work on the 25s 6 bolt locking hub flange. It looks the same as the later hubs I just don't have the pieces to compare. As for the seal issue, I think that I may just use the seals that are called out for the 25 hubs and machine a little off the seal surface of the spindles. It looks like I need to take off about 0.225". I need to pull it all apart again later anyway when I do the axle buildup.

    yes they will.
only the inner gear spline on the hub is different spline, 10 vs 27.
In fact, you can change the spline count by just changing the inner gear of the locking hub.
They did change the bearing design inside the hub, but I don't think that is an issue.

EDIT: I'm talking about the newer style spring loaded hubs.

Thanks for the info. I think I will stick with these hubs then. That looks like a pretty sweet flatty you have in your avatar. Do you have any details and more pictures of it?
