With the Dana 18 starting to howl in my MB, I am contemplating getting a later model version to swap in for more low range. Would an M38A1/CJ-5 Dana 18 with the 2.5 first gear bolt in? I like the idea behind this mod because it isn't obvioius to the casual observer.

Cool. Now which one in the chart is the bull gear? Guess I need to start looking for a donor T-case.

"Bull gear" is another term for transfer case input gear. It is the one that has the large nut holding it onto the transmission output shaft.

Sweet. Thanks. Waiting on next issue of Military Vehicles magazine as I think there were a couple of vendors who had government rebuilds.
