If I switch from the synthetic oil that I'm currently using to conventional (unsynthetic) will there be less leaks? My questions actually should be do the benifits of synthetic oil outweigh the mess (leaks) it makes compared to conventional oil? Or with such a lumbering, low compression engine should I really be using Mobil 1? I don't mind paying more and changing oil less. And I don't mind the oil drips. I just put a piece of new cardboard down under the Jeep and switch it out whenever I come across a big enough piece. What leaks the most isn't the engine but the tranny/tcase. But that'll soon be gone.
Synthetic or conventional that is the question. There will always be leaks.
    Thanks.

i really don't believe your v-6 or your tranny and transfer case care what's inside them when it come to the leaks. it has more to do with gravity and none sealed surfaces more than anything.

now if i wanted to seal every thing up i would take a trip out to Lake Havasu and see jim. why you ask well there seem to be an abundance of silicone out there i'd grab me a couple of handfuls and when you get home use it on all the mating surfaces. leaks sealed and a good time was had by all :D

I've read two conflicting opinions here. I run Mobil 1 in my 98, 93 and 77. When I converted to syn in the 77 Olds, it did find leaks that were not there with good ol' "Texas Tea". I'm just getting ready to do my first change and I think I'm going with the 40w. Just my .02 R) Oh and by the way Marc, my 95 Square light pulls hard to the right when you brake hard too. But only every 10 months or so when you least expect it. Like when you're doing 55 on an off ramp or in heavy traffic on the 3 lane highway. Keeps you on your toes and makes you resist the temptation of getting behind the wheel after a couple of :stout: R)

Had a 60s 911 years ago when I rebuilt it wanted to use the best oil I could for it , so I used Mobile 1. Could not keep it in crankcase leaked terribly had to go back with conventional and change more often. I like synthetic oil because of its lube properties and I change it less often. Ive tried several and in my 58 w/225 I use pennsoil 30 synthetic. Doesn't seem to leak out. Go figure.
