D18 Intermediate Gear Tapered Bearing Upgrade

I am installing the D18 intermedate gear tapered roller bearing retrofit kit. Instructions don't show or say to keep or discard the thrust washers? Reading many discussions here about this kit but I did not see any mention about what happened with the thrust washers within the other install discussions.

Do they stay or do they go?

 

The shape of tapered bearings applies side thrust so you don't need the thrust washers.
Attempting to add thrust washers would become a big problem.
