Was the D-30 rear axle offered on 67-69 Jeepsters?

I think it was late 68 early 69 they had a D44 with two piece axle available then they went with the one piece axle. I think my 70 Vert/4 cyl has the last D30 they put in a Jeepster  .

the 2 peice dana 44 rear in the jeepster was an odd spline count. it was 27 spline. used only about 2 years from what i understand. i actually have a powerlock for the 2 piece 27 spline dana 44 - if anyone is interested.... i think that may be the only 27 spline 44 axle used on any vechicle.

was the dana 30 rear they used in the jeepster a 27 spline unit like dana 30 front axles are? i guess the late 60's were some odd years for rear axle configurations in the jeepster.

    Pretty sure they are.

I had a PowerLock from a Jeepster 30 that was going to go into the front of my CJ. A mechanic at the Jeep dealer gave it to me for that purpose - customer didn't want it. Lost it somewhere along the way, after the CJ was gone...

FYI, don't throw away those rear Dana 30's before you look inside to see if it has a Dana Powerlock in it. They will fit the front Dana 30, got mine out of a wrecked Jeepster with a rear Dana 30. It was real cheap!

Scuttlebutt is... YJ owners are swapping in the dana 30 to replace the 35. Considered the HOT new modification. Dana 60s will soon be a thing of the past.

So a late 69 - early 70 would have one piece axles, is there a way to tell externally if it is one or two piece? I'm still trying to nail down the year of my Commando, pretty sure its a late model 69 or early 70 based on the signal and marker lights but it would be nice to know it has one piece axles.

If it has a nut or a cap with a nut on it on the end of the axle it's a two piece. If not it is a flanged one piece shaft.
BE AWARE! some of the Jeepster Dana 44's with flanged axles were also 27 spline like the 30.

There's pictures in the Axle Section of the Picture Bank that illustrate the difference between flanged and two-piece.

Just click on the "gallery" link in the menu.

I think it was actually mid year 69 that they switched to the 2-piece 44 rear. 70's had them as well though I have owned at least one auto V6 70 Jeepster that had a 1-piece 44 rear.

I have a set of 4.27 geared axles sitting here out of a 68 Jeepster; D27/D30 if you need any pictures, measurements, etc. I'm never going to use them if anyone is interested.
