Why is this a big deal? Sure, it wasn't really designed for highway use, but he made some mods for power and comfort.
Someone should tell thedrive.com about ITLKSEZ & Mighty Mouse....

This guy thinks he's a real pioneer.... forging a trail for the west in a brand new vehicle, being followed by a brand new vehicle driven by his wife driving on the interstate system.
Imagine its the mid 1800's and he rolls into a dusty midwest town. Saloon owner says" traveling alone?" He replies "my wife will be here shortly, she's following me just in case my wagon wheel falls off."
Reality is the Roxor should be following the Gladiator..... for when it breaks down....:watch:

This is lol. I’ve driven mine down to Green Bay and back, about 400 miles. It’s like driving a YJ.

I do plan on taking it on some long road trips with a teardrop. No chaser planned lol

    btw these stories are awesome!

Part of me is saying that if you need a support vehicle, you wouldn't know what to do when you NEED the support vehicle. Anyways still cool. All of the stories here are making me want an adventure. I did a 300 mile trip in my CJ5, no top, and it was great, about half of it was dirt roads. I want to go further.

AFter I get some more miles on my CJ5 and get to where I can trust it more I plan on running more sections of the "Texas Epic Adventure Trail" with it and taking it up to the Ouchita Ntl Forrest to explore more roads I haven't been down.

Longest trip I've done in my CJ is 300 miles, in one day. Other than being tired and sore, it wasn't bad at all and I'd trust it to go much further. Like some others have said, if it can go 10 miles, it can probably go 100. With the Roxor being the closest thing to our Jeeps manufactured today, I thought this was cool exposure. I did find it hilarious that the guy had his wife following him, just in case

I'm hoping that Mahindra doesn't change these much after the FCA lawsuit. There are a lot of good, fairly priced parts that we can use to maintain and improve our Jeeps!

Kinda on topic. Took a bus from E. Lansing, Michigan(go spartans!) to DC but never made it. We got snowed in along the PA MD border for two days and drank the town dry(darn bunch of college students!) Went sledding on cafeteria trays. Once the interstate was clear the loaded us back up on the bus and sent back home. Never made it to DC. This was January of 1996

It's amazing what's out there on the interwebs docmenting "epic" things. I guess its all about perspective and personal experiences. If you live and work in a large metro are and have never traveled in a jeep like vehicle that far it might seem crazy and exciting?. I dunno tho.

This is the trip that my wife and I took for our honeymoon. We traded off driving duties on the third day after an extended afternoon sampling some beers at a brewery.

I love that part of the coast. We did our yearly vacations in Trinidad for many years.

As mentioned, the Roxor is about what a CJ was back in the 1960s. I know my older brother drove our Tux from Cincinnati to Hatteras and back a couple times back in the '60s, but that was better than him hitchhiking the same trip which he also did. This was before most of the Interstate highways were completed.
My girlfriend and I took the Amtrak AutoTrain from from central Florida to just south of DC back in 2006. We boarded around 3pm and arrived in Northern Virginia around dawn the next day. I would have liked to have seen most of the trip in the daylight!
My best trip was in my Vanagon syncro immediately after completing grad school in the fall of 1995. I drove 13,000 miles around the Country (with side trips into Mexico and up north of Vancouver) in about 3 months. Stopped at friends places along the way (like Austin for 2 weeks), and had a friend from grad school along for two weeks for southwest to LA and San Fran. where we stayed with her brothers in each city, and finally, my brother for two weeks from San Fran up the coast to Canada, then down to Moab. Lots of mountain biking, and even diving in Monteray Bay.
I overheated my oil trying to make time across the Florida panhandle, losing oil pressure. A roadside change and more reasonable speeds taught me not to do that again. My transaxle locked in 3rd getting into Austin, and I pulled it out in my friend's front yard and took it to the dealer (one of about 4 in the Country that serviced the syncro at the time) for its first overhaul. I fried the front brakes going up to the Gila Cliff Dwellings in New Mexico. I remember seeing the orange glow of the rotors reflecting off the guardrails late in the night. My exhaust system cracked and fell apart near Las Vegas and a muffler shop let me use their welder in the parking lot to patch it back together. I ran into 2' of snow in the Cascades trying to make it over a pass, but they closed the road, so I had a long back-track quite a ways. The van handled the snow with no problem. The government shutdown that year closed all the National Parks on the last month of the trip, but that didn't stop me from taking fire roads both into the Grand Canyon (north rim) and the Badlands/Rushmore on the return leg. I spent 3 days driving around up there, mostly offroad, and not seeing another humam for almost a week. Then I needed gas, and I was tired of waking up to 1/2" of ice on the inside of the windows, so headed back to civilization. The VW had 180,000 miles on the start of the trip, and still had the original engine at that point. I was able to fix everything that broke, except the transaxle rebuild. It was a great adventure!

Didn't even have Cell phones then.

The 74 Jeep CJ you see in my avatar was new to me and my new bride in the spring of 1975. Before our children were born and we had few obligations in life. Neither of us had ever seen the ocean. A road trip of adventure and seeing things we had only heard and dreamed about was conceived. We loaded up the cj with coleman stove, lantern, sleeping bags and a small pup tent. We embarked on a month long trip of a little over 8000 miles with a new rand mcnally road atlas and about 500 dollars in cash. Our trip carried us to the St. Louis arch and KC. We met a couple in a 71 cj5 traveling across Kansas and traveled with them to Woodland Park Co. where we parted company as friends. Never saw them again. Often think of them but for the life of me I cannot remember their names. We camped many nights along the way in park campgrounds and sometimes in remote wooded areas. One night we were caught in bad storms and setting up camp was out of the question so we just slept in the jeep seats as best we could. Our jeep journey carried us up Pikes Peak and Mt. Evans Co., thru Rocky Mt Nat. Park, and Yellowstone NP. where a sudden snow storm dumped a foot of snow on us. Lucky the weather was warming fast and it melted the next day. Drove the Bear Tooth Hwy. We camped in Glacier NP. where we saw our first grizzly bear. We arrived on the coast to see the ocean near Tillamook Oregon at a light house only to find it very foggy, the next day we got to see the ocean for the first time! We lost a rear u-joint somewhere between Cottonwood and Redding Calif. Removed the shaft and continued on in front wheel drive to Redding where we made camp and replaced the u-joint. We passed thru the redwoods, camped 4 nights in Yosemite, visited Anaheim calif and Disneyland. Crossed Boulder dam in the jeep with the top down and the windshield down on the hood. Visited the grand canyon. When passing thru Texas I bought a case of coors beer for 4.25 hauled it all the way to Georgia for a friend. Back then you could not buy it in Ga. We traveled without any major problems, no cell ph, no credit card or a tom tom.
We have made many cross country camping trips since that first trip in the jeep but always in a truck and camper. It is a pipe dream of mine that we might make that same trip again in that same ole CJ5. We will see when I finish my rebuild. Hopefully my Ol Fogie bones can stand sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag that long again.
I wish all of you many good travels and memories in your Jeeps.
    Jim
