That could be an interesting conversation to listen to when someone finds out the "little" things about the Jeep.

Wonder how much money was spent getting it to that condition...

That's good info though--all you have to do is get any old Jeep up to a similar standard in a rebuild and get your $15K!

If the rebuild was done by professional body men and mechanics with normal labor rate paid, then there would be a very low return on the investment.

The paint job alone could easily be close to the selling point.

"collector" car value guides put the value from 2k to over 20k.
did the collector sort know enough that this was merely a 15k jeep?
It does not surprise me that there is a lot of dumping of all sorts of investment type items (cars, metals, antiques and property) as people climb aboard the bull market train.

    To all,

Another thought on this is the location in which the vehicle was sold. Basically the San Francisco Bay Area, actually a wee bit east of SF. Perhaps someone wanted a commute vehicle for one of the affluent golf courses or country clubs in the area.

Looking back, is the rear view mirror round, or square in '67?

Well, I have never owned a complete original Jeep. Most have been rotted out and had plow frames and my CJ-6 even had casket trim and plywood on it when I bought it. I really appreciate how cool an original Jeep is but I can also say that old CJ modified a bit is more like my style, but the cool thing about these old Jeeps is we can all build em how we like, stock or not and still appreciate each other's ideas. I bet those springs are an unbroken in set of lift springs and the arch is pulling the wheel to the front of the wheelwell. I hope whoever bought it has fun with it and gets bitten by the Jeep bug.

Amazing looking jeep. I love the no roll bar windshield down look. With that said some things that look different than my 1967 which has been in my family since new so I know its history. In addition to what has been said, exhaust, wiper motors and rear bumper area are not original style. Dash button locations and ignition are different layout than mine. My v6 did not come with a sticker on the oil cleaner. Mine also did not come with hubcaps on the rims. I do realize that some of these differences may have happened during the production year. Mine has back up lights and this one does not but I think mine has a later serial number so they were likely added mid year or were an option. Like the hub caps. And the color may not be period correct but with that said this is one great looking early cj5. Would be nice to have all new parts with no dents from the trail all over every panel.

I can respect that and also agree that the Jeep is a great blank canvas for modification, but you can indeed have "wrong parts" on a Jeep or any other vehicle and it'll be wrong, and not factory.

If someone bought this 1967 CJ5 and drove it for a few years then put it away in a barn with its original parts still intact, then brought it out of hibernation and buffed it up some, well that's the angle I wanted to explore here. How close is this one to a factory (or showroom with the possibility of dealer add-ons) original?

And the answer is, apparently, not much. It's a poseur.

I think this was a good topic. It encourages looking at a jeep with eyes wide open.
