Craftsman To Stanley

Don't see why not, Stanley makes the only tools approved by NASA. The craftsmen tools are already made by some of the same people that make the Stanley, Blackhawk, Proto tools.

You missed the point, Stanley has never and I repeat never been anything other than consumer homeowners tools, Proto is there professional tools and NASA's choice while Blackhawk is there Industrial tool division.

 

Yeah, I guess I did miss that point.

Actually Stanley for many years made tools for professionals, up until about WWII, and they are very much in demand even today.

 

So they made good tools up until about 65 years ago.

 

Seems like just yesterday.

I picked up an old Stanley #60 1/2 low angle, adjustable mouth block plane in great condition 3 years ago at a flea market for $15...great tool...the blade was even sharp.☺

I like proto tools. Blackhawk is fine too, but I think they are made overseas now

 

I just bought a new proto ratchet about 6 weeks ago, it was made in the USA. We still buy Blackhawk stuff at work on a regular monthly basis, it has all been marked USA.

 

Every finish carpenter and furniture-maker I know uses a #60½. I have three of them.
Yes, a great tool. Makes the new ones seem like bricks.

 

ACE carries Craftsman tools now at least around here. I would say that provides a decent market for the line even if the Sears stores go under (none are closing in Oregon and Washington at least) 90% of my automotive tools and maybe 25 % of my wood working tools are Craftsman I do buy almost any that I find used especially at yard sale prices. I will continue to add to my Craftsman tools as long as they are available. I have many pre 1970 Stanley tools as well one of my Wood Chisel sets is Stanley and they are excellent quality. I also own a bunch of Harbor Freight crap typically rarely used tools or tools I pretty much consider disposable.

They all work if you know how to use them.

I can tell you the fancy Tool roll I put together for the tool box in Chug A Lug will have Craftsman on as many of them as possible.

 

I have a Stanley 55 I inherited from my father-law. I think I have 6 different Stanley planes.

 

I hope that they will move more production back to the US. The quality the tools has really suffered the last few years.
