I've been poking around looking for the "right" seat trim. The Jeep is a '69 Kaiser of Canada ECJ-5, and the original color is Omaha Orange according to the original owner (my uncle) and under the cowl it's definitely orange. But I cannot seem to find any reference to what the seats should look like, because well, Kaiser didn't offer Omaha Orange in 1969 or 1970...

This is the original seat, in current condition; passenger left, driver right:

This seems to be the options available:

My uncle says the seats are original, never recovered, but I did remove a mangey old aftermarket cover off each one, and the sheepskin that was on top of that. My only guess is trim 338 but the central sections turned a brown (albeit they look almost purple up close).

I want to find some material for my local upholsterer, who has done some great jobs on other classic cars. But I'm not sure how it should "look". My current seats are Rugged Ridge Buckskin, but I prefer the originals.

Thoughts on what may be correct? And you won't offend if you tell me that's not a Kaiser trim on those seats. So much is "not quite right" on this girl that I'm never quite sure it's the same Jeep he bought in '70.

To the best of my knowledge, Omaha Orange has always been available as a fleet color. Any dealership could order vehicles in one of several fleet colors by checking a box. Black, Omaha Orange, Transport Yellow, Federal Gray, Marlin Blue Poly, Forest Green. The dealerships all knew this, but it was not advertised.

I'd guess an orange Jeep would get gray/black seats, but likely Jeep would build it with whatever interior color the customer wanted. No way to tell for certain if there's no original fabric remaining and no paint/trim tag.

Thanks, Tim. How close do those original seats look to 338? I can't imagine a trim with a tan background that isn't 338 Buckskin. Of course, I do like the gray (340).

Is there a site that has good modern photos of what these looked like.

All you have is the foam core... that looks fine, to me. Methinks that does not tell you anything about the original upholstery fabric. If that's what's left of the original fabric, I would guess 340, but it may look different in person. A good upholstery shop can recover them to look near original; you'll need to show the shop what they should look like.

If you post with your request in the title, someone here might have pictures for you.

Ok, so you're saying what's there isn't the original fabric? Fair enough.

I don't know. The fabric should have stripes.

I thought so too, which is why I was asking.

It was a cream color with the Orange, wasn't it?
