    Hi All,

I need to replace the whole brake system on my Jeep. Lines are rusted through, brake shoes are dirty, cylinders are all shot. I have the single system on my Jeep with only one line going out the master brake cylinder which also needs to be replaced. My question is how are the lines normally connected. At this moment there's a bigger brake line coming out of the master cylinder which goed around 1,5 ft to the front of the chassis leg and there's a T. out of the T are coming 2 3/16 lines of which ones goes to the back axle and one tot he front and they both split again. Is that the original design or to I need a Y connection bolted to my master brake cylinder?

I think the car/chassis is a sixties CJ5 originally. Does someone has a picture maybe?

Also I would like to change to a split master cylinder but not for 200+ dollars compared to the current 50 dollar one which I need now. We don't drive faster then 30mph on our Island although the roads are far from flat. Or am I making a really bad decision not changing to a split master brake cylinder?

    Thanks and greetings from Statia
    Colin

What you have is Correct for an early CJ5. The split master is a good idea unless your terminally ill with a good life insurance policy.
That said I'm still trying to afford a dual reservoir myself. You can try making a new bracket and buying the later reservoir separately. Then you plumb the rear line to the master plug the rear port from the 4way block and run a line from the distribution block to the master cylinder.

Speaking as someone who has suffered total brake failure twice in an old vehicle with single master cylinder, I HIGHLY recommend changing to a dual master cylinder.

The brass Y fitting on the front of the master cylinder is the only one any one sells. Orient it correctly for one of the holes and plug the other hole with a small pipe plug and run the new lines just like your old ones. Walck's helped me sort out the same problem you have.

Thanks all for the help and advice. This weekend I've checked some things and removed some more break parts and order everything I needed. They take around 3 weeks at least so time enough to clean everything and start making new brakelines.

For my birthday this weekend the guys gave me a train horn so I think the few on the island who don't know me yet will know about me and the Jeep very soon when its on the road again.

btw I went for the single master for now. Need to check if the rest of the jeep is in good enough shape to really start to spend money and I kept the 4way blok an are going to re-use the single output on the master brake because that one looked still reasonably good. All the lines are shot so am going to put on all new brakelines.
