Hello, was wondering if the original roof rack designed for the hard top on a Commando would fit on a CJ5 hardtop...I like the looks of these and think it would be a cool addition to my metal hardtop.
If anyone has one of these they could measure I would appreciate it.

If it fits then my next step is finding one. Thanks

Funny you should ask, I just did some rough measurements on one the other day. These aren't 100% accurate because we were just doing a comparison but are pretty close. The strips that run front to back on the roof are 51" so the actual length is a little more, probably about 2 to 3" and it's approx. 41" across from outside to outside of the stanchions. With a little bit of playing around they can be shortened and the width reduced, I've got one sitting up in the garage rafters that someone altered chainsawguy . Just kidding, they didn't really use a chainsaw, they actually did a pretty good job :). I can get the actual measurements if you nee them.

Sure. Are you using the one in the rafters? Thanks!

I'd kind of thought about putting it on a Jeepster Half Cab I'm working on. I did have it sitting on the roof of my snowplow Jeepster but I'm really not sure whether I like the look. I'll get it down this afternoon and get some pictures of it and take some measurements of the stock one.

After looking at it closer today I believe it wasn't cut down but that this is how it came, not sure what it was originally off. Guess I'd probably sell it. I'd have to see whether it will come apart without snapping off any of the 4 screws that hold the cross bars on. One of the stanchions is cracked/split where the bar goes on and they're far from perfect. If you think it'll work for you PM me what you think it's worth.

The Grand Wagoneer roof rack might be an option as well. Measuring it roughly, on our 1985 out in the yard, it's 62 inches long and 47.5 inches wide. Easily fit on the CJ5 Acme width-wise, but would have to be cut for length. A lot more of these in the junkyard.
