Installed my clutch cable. When I press the clutch pedal down, with my hand and my back now hurts, the clutch fork only moves about a 1/4 inch. If I adjusted the clutch tight the fork did not move. It does not feel right. I got my clutch parts locally from this small business that just deals in clutch parts. When I pick parts up, they gave me a high diaphragm pressure plate, the guy said it was a very good product and the throw out bearing was shorter than the one I took out.

After looking on Novak's site, I think I might have installed the throw out bearing wrong.

When I adjust the cable/clutch, the fork is in the front 1/3rd of the opening in the housebuilding and does not move any more towards the back of the hole.

How much should the clutch fork move when the pedal is depressed?

If I put the trans and T-case in gear and press the clutch pedal and I can push the Jeep and it rolls, is this a good test that the clutch is working?

Any input of what might be going on.

Looks like i might pulling a engine.

This mistake has been made by many hobby mechanics and no telling how many of them are still working after several years of use.

The engine has not been started. The drivers fender is just hung in place, passenger is not installed. Will have to take off front bumper, PTO winch, grill and radiator. I can pull a engine by myself. The trans and T case w/ PTO, I would need help, which I might not have. Much less, work under the Jeep with all that metal, I would not feel safe. I can probably get that engine out in 2-3 hours, with not much laying on cold concrete.

Sometimes I do what I feel most comfortable/safe with even though it will take me longer.

Pulled the engine. The throw out bearing, one side was clipped in right the other side was wrong. The problem was with the clutch fork, it was not installed right. Really don't know what I did wrong. Engine is back in. Put Jeep transmission in gear, when clutch pedal pushed it, Jeep would roll.

Sounds like it is releasing to me. Did you hook up the springs that pull the throw out bearing back, They are a pia when putting the trans and transfer case into clutch with motor in the Jeep. Good Luck

No there was nothing in when I tore it down the first time. Do not remember seeing a hole in the throw out bearing to hook a spring too.

If you are working on your 70 model jeep then the throw-out will not have an internal return spring. Your return spring will be on the outside.

I didn't see that it was a 70, just remember figuring out how to hook up the ones inside the older Jeeps, what fun.

You will have a spring that hooks to the clutch fork and goes forward to a bell-housing bolt w/brkt.
