Does anyone have pictures of the cross-shaft tube assembly, I have notice that some rebuilds kits have two springs and some have one, I believe when I removed mine it only had one (61 cj5).

    Thanks

Bumping this back up because I have been looking into this also. Took my old one apart and it only had one spring on the inner side near the transmission but some kits have two springs. without two springs I am not sure how the felt and tab stay in place on the outboard side. Anyone have experience with this.

When I replaced mine it had 2 springs, 2 felts, 2 discs, 2 cotter pins, 2 rubber end seals. The old one I replaced had the same. I did notice that those little metal discs were pretty crappy (like a metal flake!) compared to the heavier gauge on the original. I just reused the discs. Sorry I haven't found out why some kits have only 1 spring also...

Here is the rebuild kit i bought. If you order one from here, CONFIRM THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION BEING USED BEFORE PURCHASE!! I had to modify my purchase to make it work. If you have it apart to put in a spring, it isnt much more to change the (probably) worn ball studs anyway

I think that Kaiser Willys is wrong. There is only one spring called for. In fact, there is no room for the second spring on the short side, as the cotter pin hole placement precludes its use. If I'm wrong, someone please set me straight.

Yes, but the video shows the spring going in the tube and then the cotter pin. In that way, the spring is doing nothing. There is no tension on it. I looked at the video multiple times.

I put the pin in first, then the spring.

This is the way my 66 Tux is. Been that way since 1970 (when I bought it.)

That's what I'm trying to get across. The Kaiser Willys video is wrong.

I think I am probably going to reassemble it the way it came apart. The video is what confused me. Walcks sells them with one spring. I can't imagine two springs doing much damage other than maybe wearing the felt down quicker if at all.
