Hi, when I disassembled my CJ5 steering, the Ross box was a complete mess. I am almost ready to put it back together but I need to purchase the worm tube and the outer tube. The one that came with the Jeep measures 41 1/2", but I have seen also 42" that would "fit". Since I have no idea what the PO did here I want to be sure I purchase the correct one. I found a nice NOS 42" but I don't know if it would work. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

There was a different Ross box on the V6 and the 4 cylinder. The V6 box was a little heavier constructed, I believe they are interchangeable. The PO could have changed things out, just a FYI

Before investing in a new inner tube/worm, carefully check your sector shaft. The two nubs that engage the worm are known for severe wear. These sectors can be hard to find for a quality original, and the reproductions are very questionable quality.
Again, a WTB in our classifieds might be an option. Sorry, but I don't have any good spares here. The V6 and M38a1 steering boxes are a bit beefier and interchange.
